Historic Milestones

Nearly two centuries of excellence and unwavering commitment to education

1873

Elevated to Intermediate College Status

Following appeals from local citizens, the Zilla School was upgraded to an Intermediate College. F.A. courses began on 1 April 1873 with only six students, funded by Raja Haralal Roy Bahadur of Dubalhati.

1875

First FA Examination Batch

Of the first batch of students appearing for FA exams, only two passed — nearly leading the government to abolish the college before the Rajshahi Association intervened.

1877

Degree Programme Affiliation

The college received affiliation for the Degree programme, backed by a Rs 150,000 contribution from Raja Promothnath Roy Bahadur of Dhigapathia via the Rajshahi Association.

1878

First-Grade College Status & Official Naming

The college was accorded first-grade rank, enabling B.A. courses affiliated with the University of Calcutta. The institution was officially named 'Rajshahi College'.

1881

M.A. Classes Inaugurated

Postgraduate M.A. classes began at the college.

1883

B.L. Classes Added

Law courses were introduced, expanding the college's academic offerings.
